Low Alpha Solder & Ultra-Low Alpha Solder

Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (MMC) is a provider of specially purified Pb and solder alloys. Low alpha materials are products whose alpha-ray counts have been reduced to approximately 1/100 ~ 1/1000 of their normal values. Alpha-ray emission are a known cause of soft errors in sensitive semiconductor memories. MMC's production facility includes a special refining line, which removes significant amounts of "trace" materials and produce a very pure grade of Pb and Sn. Low alpha solder products from MMC have been used in the Japanese semiconductor industry for over 10 years. Since the beginning, MMC has retained statistical data on alpha measurements to provide analysis of lot-to-lot consistency and superiority over standard materials. Below is a comparison of lead products CPH (Alpha-ray counts per hour).

In addition to low alpha activity, these materials are highly purified (chemically) and are vacuum cast which enables the materials to exhibit low oxide and gas content, making them very suitable for use in vacuum processes.
